Harvest Shares

2008 Season

Week of April 22 - November 21, 2008

Sorry  for the delay in getting this updated - been too busy farming!

     Sharing the Harvest

It’s easy to eat your veggies when they have great flavor! A Huasna Valley Farm Harvest Share member receives a weekly share of delicious fruits and vegetables for a 31week season. Fresh produce, all grown at our farm, is delivered in ice chests to drop-site host's  centrally located homes throughout San Luis Obispo and the 5-cities.  (A list of  locations is listed under Dropsites.)

We grow a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs to savor throughout the season. The shares start up with 8 or so different crops in early Spring and expand to 15+ during the height of the season. Each week the Harvest Share is unique, with seasonal, nutrient-rich produce.

A Harvest Share provides vegetables to a family with vegetables, fresh herbs, occasional flowers, seasonal berries, melons, and tree fruit.  Those who don’t cook routinely or are single households may want to split the Share with a friend.

              Sharing the Farm

In addition to the edible benefits, the Harvest Share includes a newsletter with recipes and stories to connect you with your farm. The newsletter also announces seasonal events at the farm.  By sharing the farm, members of all ages gain a deeper connection to their food and discover the diversity of life on an organic farm.

 Love Your Veggies Guarantee

Harvest Share members subscribe for the entire growing season. Learning to cook with the Harvest Share requires some time and flexibility. If, after the Spring trimester (June 28), you haven’t come to love your veggies, we will cancel your membership and refund the remaining balance.

 Know Who Grows Your Food

Huasna Valley Farm was established by Ron and Jenn Skinner in 1998 as a family-operated farm dedicated to growing nutritious, flavorful food in a manner that respects the environment and strives to sustain it. The farm is located in the Huasna Valley, 12 miles southeast of Arroyo Grande. Along with our kids, Kyle (10) and Linnea (8) and 6 apprentice farmers, we farm 12 acres of fertile soil to grow food for 160 families in our community..

   Dropsites

Harvest Shares are delivered to convenient neighborhood dropsites. The Harvest Shares can be picked up anytime between 4-9 p.m. the day of delivery or the next morning if necessary.   The produce should be transferred into bags at the dropsites and the ice chest wiped clean for the following week. Your host will give you a reminder by phone or e-mail prior to the first delivery and provide approximate time of arrival to the dropsite.   If you are unable to pick up the produce, please let your host know so they can use or redistribute the produce.  Hosts should give a reminder call within 24 hours but if the produce is unclaimed they will find another home for it so it doesn't go to waste..
